Lab interests:
We are broadly interested in understanding how and why plant carbon and water relations are impacted by environmental change, such as drought. We examine questions at multiple spatial and temporal scales within the context of global change. Here are some research topics that we explore:
  • Impact of coastal fog on plant water and carbon relations in a variety of ecosystems (forests, farms, urban habitat);
  • Response of plant community and productivity to water availability/drought in a montane meadow
  • Interactive effects of between coastal fog, riparian shading, and physical stream attributes on stream temperature in California salmonid habitat
We use a variety of research techniques, including field-based ecological studies, controlled manipulative experiments, and spatial analyses to address research questions.
Lab updates:
  • Sara is on sabbatical Fall 2024!
  • Students graduate Spring 2024! Jessica Solis (M.A., Resource Management & Environmental Planning) and Kapewa Hopfe (B.S. Environmental Science and B.A. Geography). They each have positions that align with their interests and career goals. Learn more on the People page!
  • Students Jessica Solis and Kapewa Hopfe present at AGU 2023! See poster abstract to learn more.
